Do I have to pay yearly? Or can I pay month to month?
DPC care is meant to be a year long endeavor so that you can call at any time for almost any problem. But we don’t want the cost of the care to be a burden. Many families will be paying for their membership monthly. If you’re afraid you might forget, by all means pay portions in advance.
I’m still confused about what Direct Primary Care is…
That’s understandable. It’s pretty new to Minnesota, but it’s pretty mind blowing as to how common it is in other states. So here is a simple summary…
DPC is supposed to be “old-school” medicine where your family doctor is a simple phone call away. Your monthly membership allows your favorite provider to focus on a small group of patients- and be accessible in a way that would never be possible in today’s version of medicine. And you now have unlimited access to your provider: Every. Single. Day.
Most insurance plans place the burden of cost on your shoulders with high deductibles, copays, and poor reimbursement if you go to the wrong doctor. Frequently DPC can limit costs. 5 months of a membership can be the same cost as a single urgent care visit.
A patient just relayed a story about their flu test urgent care visit.
One swab= $500 urgent care visit.
Ouch.
In many cases, you can say goodbye to urgent care visits, many specialty visits, and dramatically reduce your emergency care needs. Instead of staring at your kid and wondering “is this illness worth a 5 hour ER lobby wait and a $1,500 bill”, you can simply pick up the phone and get answers.
Is there a family plan?
Perfect question. Families come in all shapes and sizes- and so there was no easy way to say that families of a certain size or age grouping could have the same type of membership. We do honor a 5% discount for family members and we will continue to look at creative ways to keep family care under the same roof.
